Katey Brooks, new EP 'I Fought Lovers' and free track download.
Katey Brooks is a British folk artist who combines her gospel choir-esque vocal with a backdrop of haunting but beautiful ethereal folk sounds. The “I Fought Lovers” EP has a fragility to it, which is guided by the light of Katey's euphoric heart melting vocal described as “ a voice to melt glaciers” (Venue Magazine).
Born and raised in a commune setting between Bristol, London and Arizona, to hippy music-loving parents, Katey’s unique sound and style epitomizes the culturally diverse environment in which she grew up. Katey has now settled in the UK where she wrote, composed, arranged and produced this majestic EP.
The “I Fought Lovers E P” i s the follow up release to her debut album “Proof Of Life” which reached No.1 in the Amazon Folk chart along with favorable press reviews and 6 music airplay. Katey is currently recording her album in a beautiful church in the West Country, chosen by Brooks for the exquisite acoustics . Katey's live show is one of instant captivation performing at Glastonbury, WOMAD, BBC Introducing stages and supporting a host of credible artists such as Newton Faulkner, Mercury nominee Lou Rhodes and BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winner Chris Wood.
Drawing influences from artists like Johnny Cash and Kate Bush, her voice is often compared to the likes of Joan Armatrading and Annie Lennox . At the same time, Katey is an individual and versatile artist who recently recruited a whole new legion of fans including Joss Stone after covering an acoustic version of Kendrick Lamar’s “Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe”
“love this lady’s voice...she really means what she’s singing. Lovely.”
“ So many of our regulars picked this new tune of Katey’s as one of their fives faves...” Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music) on Katey Brooks being voted as one of the
