Life As A Rock Star with Clint Hell

We’re all adrenaline junkies. To a certain extent at least. And yes, I’m talking about people in bands – musicians. What we look for is that kick, that spark, that…. That feeling. Basically the same as anyone free-climbing, base jumping or parachuting. Or skateboarding or kite surfing or… Well, you see where I’m going with this, yeah?

And, sure, yeah, it is about meeting the audience. Of course. Standing there in the centre of attention IS a kick. And certainly, me being a front man, I do enjoy having all eyes on me, waiting to see what I’ll do next, what WE’LL do next. ‘Cos you have to understand that, though I’m at the front, it’s a shared experience. A shared moment. A collaboration. A uniting, common effort. Standing there together, facing the crowd, staring them in the eye and daring them to join us in a musical, physical experience. Waiting in anticipation for their reaction and response.

But that is just the obvious part. The other part is the creative part. When you write down the words for the lyrics, try out new combinations of old chords, try to go beyond what you’ve done before and suddenly – SUDDENLY – being touched by that divine inspiration and it just C-L-I-C-K-S! And you just know you have something. The trick now is to remember it long enough to show the others in the band…

Then there’s another creative aspect. When you’ve shown your stuff to the band and they all chip in their bits and the song building really starts. Once you got all the pieces right you have to put them together in the right order. Then rehearsing REALLY begins.

And then suddenly everything runs smoothly, everything is in place, everybody’s doing their bit immaculately… And it’s bloody magic! The universe is one! It’s a mental orgasm!

And then you start over again… The good thing about it is that it’s not illegal, it’s not dangerous and the addiction to it won’t harm you. ;-)

Stay well and check out in the meantime,
