Heavy Young Heathens LP, Make Room For The Youth EP

Hi guys, how are you?
Good, How are you?

Would you mind introducing us to your band members?
I am Aron Heathen, and I am Robert Heathen.

How long has the current band line up been together?
For Life Homie...

How did you meet each other?
As Lady Gaga say’s We were “Born This Way.”

How did you come up with the band name?
We got arrested when we were younger, and the police told us the elderly neighbor described us as those two “Young Heathens.”

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t yet heard you?
This Question never comes off correctly and bands sound like Assholes when they answer it, so I will pass on this one. Next Question.

What music did you listen to while growing up?
I was enchanted by the marvelous tempting sounds of “Bell. Biv. Devoe.” Or B.B.D. for all of you who are familiar with The East Coast Family.

Which artist or track inspired you to want to make music yourself?
When was the ‘I want to do that!’ moment?

Chuck Berry’s “Maybellene” comes to mind. Seeing Cash in concert solo w/ just an acoustic guitar was the moment that sold us on performing.

What was the last music you put on your ipod or mp3 player?
What is an Ipod??

What have you been up to recently?
Last month I got up to 152 pounds, but I was eating way to many poptarts.

What can your fans look forward to in the next 12 months?
I think they can look forward to an early Spring. Higher Gas Rates. And Lindsey Lohan’s Return to Jail.

What is your current equipment?
The Mind is a powerful tool. More people should use that instead of learning “Sweet Child O’Mine.”

Do you have a favourite piece of musical kit that you couldn’t live without?
My Ipod.

If you had an unlimited equipment budget what would be on your shopping list?
Is Abbey Road Studios still up for Sale?

Do you use the same equipment live as you do when in a studio?

Do you try to capture your ‘live’ sound on recordings or do you think that the ‘live’ sound and recorded sound should be different experiences for your fans?
Not really. Chuck Berry, early Sun Recording Artists, and The Stooges were the only one’s to do that successfully.

How much involvement do you have with the arranging and production of the songs when recording?
All of it. And we make our own Coffee too....

Is the production side of things something you’d like to get involved more in the future, maybe working with other artists?
Indeed it is. We would love to make a record with Eddie Murphy and pick up where he and Rick James left off...

Do you find the process of recording enjoyable and does it get easier the more you do?
It is very enjoyable, but no it never gets easier. It is hard work and something you have to work hard at and be smart about everyday.

Do you have any new recordings planned?
We never stop recording. The red light is on and The Tape is rolling constantly...

Which are your favourite original tracks?
Gone Stamos and Daylight Breaks are two we like.

Who are your favourite songwriters?
Noel Gallagher, Tammy Wynette, Hank Cochran, Mike Ness and Neil Finn.

Who are the main songwriters for the band?
We both are.

Do you have a set routine when writing and recording or does it depend on each track and the inspiration?
Nothing is ever set in stone. We take a different approach to recording everytime. But we always take the same approach to songwriting, which is start with a great song.

Do you have a method for writing songs?
There is no set formula or Rule Book to writing a song, good or bad.

Do you find song writing easy or difficult?
Neither. It’s an ongoing process that continues to enlighten and baffle all at the same time.

Is there anyone who you would like to collaborate with on writing songs or performing?

They are all dead. Oh, and Eddie Murphy.

Would you sign with a major record company?
Are there any still around??

Which countries have you gigged in?
America. Germany. Austria. Tulare. Fresno.

Which countries would be at the top of your list to tour?
The U.K.

Who would you like to tour with?
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. And a Driver for the Van....

How do you promote your music and get your music out to new fans?
We give it away on our website for Free.

Which music promotion websites do you use and do you have a favourite?
Not sure what you mean.

Do you think such sites and the internet are good tools for independent and unsigned artists?

Not at all. The Internet allows Crap Bands and Artists with Crap Music to cloud the marketplace with awful music. At least that is what some A&R guy told us after he threw our record in his garbage can. By The way, he is looking for a job...

With such a variety of similar websites that exist now for independent artist to promote music, is there something missing from them that you would like to see?
Money for the artists.

What is your opinion on ‘battle of the bands’ competitions?

Maybe when your in Highschool to win a ribbon or get some chick to like you, but other than that, they are a joke...

What's your best/worst experience at a gig?
People being there is the Best. Nobody there is the Worst.

Do you get nervous before a gig? How do you calm down?
No. Drugs.

Has your music been used on any film soundtracks?
Yes it has.

Is composing for film or tv something you’d like to get involved in if the opportunity came along?

Yes it is.

Is there anything you'd like to add?
Thanks for playing our music. And thanks to your readers for their time...
